30th Celebration: The Pikachu Deck at a Glance

Pikachu is the star of the anniversary set 30th Celebration, and there is a deck that lives on exactly that. The more Pikachu you have on your side, the harder each one of them hits.

The card: Pikachu 034/128

Pikachu 034/128 from the 30th Celebration set.
  • Basic Pokémon, 70 HP, Lightning type
  • Pikakette (German card name) for three Lightning Energy: 40 damage for each of your Pikachu and Pikachu ex in play.

With six Pikachu that is 240 damage. With the Stadium Area Zero Underdepths it becomes more than 300, according to the source. So your plan is simple: get as many Pikachu into play as fast as you can.

More room: Pikachu ex and Area Zero Underdepths

Tera Pikachu ex (here the Illustration Rare 277/217) and Area Zero Underdepths.

Pikachu ex from Ascended Heroes is a Tera Pokémon. While it is in play, Area Zero Underdepths (Prismatic Evolutions 094/131) lets you have up to eight Pokémon on your Bench. That means more Pikachu for Pikakette and more room for helpers. Pikachu ex also has the Ability Resolute Heart: if it has full HP and would be Knocked Out by an attack, it stays in play with 10 HP. That way it holds off your opponent while you power up the small Pikachu.

The two Pikachu ex from 30th Celebration

The Special Illustration Rares 149/128 and 150/128.
  • Day version, Pika-Pika-Parade: you search your deck for any number of Basic Pokémon and put them straight onto your Bench. That fills your Bench with Pikachu in one turn.
  • Night version, Zipp-Zapp-Wahn: you attach any number of Basic Energy cards from your hand to your Pokémon.

The deck list uses the regular versions 053/128 and 054/128. The Special Illustration Rares 149/128 and 150/128 play exactly the same, they just look better.

The energy engine: Bellibolt

Tadbulb 113/086 and Bellibolt 114/086 from Black Bolt
Tadbulb and Bellibolt, here as Illustration Rares 113/086 and 114/086.

Bellibolt from Black Bolt has the Ability Dynamotor: once during your turn you attach a Lightning Energy from your discard pile to one of your Benched Pokémon. With two Bellibolt in play you get two Energy back. Put Tadbulb on your Bench early and evolve it. Explorer's Guidance and Ultra Ball put Energy into the discard pile.

Draw and protect

Dudunsparce 080/131 from Prismatic Evolutions
Dudunsparce draws three cards every turn.
  • Dudunsparce (Prismatic Evolutions 080/131): Run Away Draw draws 3 cards once per turn. Then you shuffle Dudunsparce and all attached cards back into your deck.
  • Poké Pad and Buddy-Buddy Poffin speed up your setup.
  • Survival Brace: Pikachu has only 70 HP. With the Brace it stays in play with 10 HP after a strong attack.
  • Brave Bangle: +30 damage for Pikachu against Pokémon ex.

Is the deck worth it?

The Pikachu deck is one of the few where the anniversary card itself is the attacker. Its weak spot is 70 HP per Pikachu, so Pikachu ex with Resolute Heart and Survival Brace carry a lot of weight. If you collect the Pikachu from 30th Celebration anyway, this gives you a deck for the table. The collector side of the two Pikachu ex is covered in Special Illustration Rare Pikachu ex from Pokémon 30th Celebration, another deck from the set in 30th Celebration: The Lugia Deck at a Glance.
