Delta Reign: Bug Out deck with Masquerain

Delta Reign brings several Bug Pokémon that share the same attack: Bug Out. This deck is built entirely around it. The main attacker is Masquerain, which can deal up to 350 damage for just one Grass Energy.

How Bug Out works

With Bug Out you reveal the bottom 7 cards of your deck to your opponent. For each Pokémon among them that has the Bug Out attack itself, the attack does 50 damage. Then you shuffle those Pokémon back into your deck and discard the other revealed cards. Seven hits mean 350 damage.

The deck runs 16 Pokémon with Bug Out, four of each:

  • Masquerain (Delta Reign): the main attacker, Bug Out costs only 1 Grass Energy. Evolves from Surskit.
  • Spinarak (Delta Reign 058/103)
  • Sizzlipede (Dunkelnacht 009/084)
  • Combee (Delta Reign 006/103)

Spinarak, Sizzlipede and Combee hardly attack themselves. They are mainly ammunition: the more of them sit at the bottom of the deck, the harder Masquerain hits.

How do the bugs get under the deck?

That is the real job of this deck. Two cards handle it:

  • Jellicent (Delta Reign 028/103) with the Ability Deep Sea Draw: once during your turn you draw a card and put a card from your hand on the bottom of your deck. Several Jellicent in play mean several uses per turn. Evolves from Frillish.
  • Kofu (Stellar Crown): put 2 cards from your hand on the bottom of your deck in any order, then draw 4 cards.

To get enough bugs into your hand, Poké Pad, Buddy-Buddy Poffin and Bug Catching Set search them out of the deck. As an alternative the source names Cay and Ermittlerset, which also put cards on the bottom of the deck.

Who is this deck for?

The deck is cheap, because apart from the trainers almost all of its Pokémon are common cards. In return it needs planning: attack too early with few bugs at the bottom of the deck and you only hit for 50 or 100. Prepare for two or three turns and you have an attacker that can knock out big Pokémon ex for a single Energy.
